Uncubed Studios Approved: McDonald’s McMistakes Ads
Uncubed Studios Approved is a series showcasing select employer branded content that’s breaking boring hiring practices by breaking the Internet.
If you weren’t walking around Belgium in 2018 paying very close attention to fast food posters, you might have missed McDonald’s McMistakes campaign. A series of ads created by TBWA Belgium to help McDonald’s student hiring efforts in the Western European nation, the supersized combination of humor and honesty between candidates and employers is that rare special recipe that has our number.
News alert people: we make mistakes. We’re just wired that way and it’s important to acknowledge when we don’t get it right. For a demographic that’s extremely self-aware, it’s refreshing to know there’s an employer out there that’s seeking them out. McDonald’s is so confident in the talent training systems it has in place, it can teach anyone who wants kick ass at the fry station to do it right - even if a few McFlurry cups end up as collateral damage.
When it comes to recruiting talent, so much attention is paid to a candidate’s experience and whether or not it’s “the right fit” for the organization. But as this campaign demonstrates, sometimes it’s the wrong fit that gets people to stop and pay attention. McMistakes certainly got ours, and looking at the continuous engagement across social, we’re not the only ones.
