3 Steps to Update your Career Page in a COVID World

Catered lunches! A blog that hasn’t featured a new post in months! Scrolling endlessly through text and photos in order to learn what the culture at this company is like! If your Careers section still revolves around pre-Covid perks and making the candidate come to you, legendary manager Darth Vader might say your lack of faith in remote work is disturbing.

Maintaining balance today in the force, the workforce that is, doesn’t rely on what takes place inside a physical office. If you’re not familiar with what happened to the Death Star, it wasn’t shuttered by COVID, but its demise didn’t derail the Galactic Empire. That’s because Darth, Palpatine, and the Storm Trooper union adapted a remote work model early on, diversifying talent across the galaxy from Endor to Tatooine in order to assert their rule.

So, how can we start preparing for the future?

Here’s the best way to refresh your Career page for your team’s post-Covid recruitment efforts

Bird’s career page addresses the perks Talent actually cares about

1. Update Your Perks

Talent today does not care how many games, snacks, and happy hours your office culture promotes. What they want to know is:

1. Do you offer a flexible WFH policy or not?

2. Will you provide credit for office equipment?

3. Is this a Zoom camera off during a meeting environment or not?

4. Do you have a seamless virtual onboarding experience?

Not updating your perks because you aren’t really sure if you’ll return to the office is a sign of indecisiveness, indifference, or an inability to communicate what it is candidates will suddenly expect an employer to provide when considering whether or not to join them.

2. Add videos introducing who you really are

If you’re a cutting edge company that’s attempting to attract top talent, please be transparent. Candidates can tell when someone isn’t being truthful or holding back on what your culture is actually like.

Or worse, if your words truly are honest, but it’s something a candidate would expect you to say about your own company, then they still won’t believe you.

Honest, transparent video is the best resource to create trust with a candidate. Even the best copywriter armed with quality photos and motion graphics can’t create content that rivals the emotional impact a video has. Also, you can’t be a cutting edge company and not have video on your Careers page. It doesn’t work like that.

3. Make sure your blog and social media channels are up to date.

We’re not saying you have to enter all the TikTok Challenges, but making sure your presence on social media, blogs, and Glassdoor are providing authentic perspectives and insight is important. Being part of the conversation, whether it’s related to your industry, workplace culture, or the world at large, is a simple and effective way to reinforce prospective candidates and current employees that you believe in an open line of communication.
