Uncubed Studios Approved: Square

Every company needs a thoughtful careers page, even better if you can build a thoughtful careers site. The digital payments software/hardware gurus at Square have built an exceptional one, loaded with video, photo, and detailed information about the hiring process and company benefits.

I’ve written about Square before—their microsite is that good. But I want to point out something that makes theirs stand out in particular: education.

Tell me something I don’t know

An underrated and overlooked element of a successful career page is education. Anyone who visits the page/site should come away learning something about the company, about the industry you operate in, about your customers, about a problem you solve.  Square does this well. Like, crazy well. From their careers site, you can:

Why does this matter?

Your careers page is about informing the reader. Bare bones, prospective employees should learn what positions are open and how to apply. But before you ask candidates to make the case for why you should hire them, you should make the case for why they should apply. Square is doing exactly that. Watch them walk you through the process.

Square’s Message: Here’s a bowl of our pudding loaded with proof.

It feels like magic, right?

Even if you don’t have loads of money to spend on a site, like Square clearly does, this is a template you can follow. Don’t worry about visual assets yet or exactly how you’ll present the information, just start by finding the words. Just repeat the sequence above using your employer's culture as the catalyst for a thoughtful reply. Now go get ‘em, tiger.

This is who we are and what we do

This is who we serve and why that matters…

This is why our customers keep choosing us…

Here’s proof we’re good at what we do—and that we’re thinking about the future.

This is what the culture is like here.

This is how to get your foot in the door.

This is what you’ll get once you're here.

Here’s a bowl of our pudding loaded with proof.
