Uncubed Approved: Oracle’s Careers Page

An essential part of any company’s recruitment plan should be revamping the careers page. This is the page on your website where potential employees will learn about your company culture and what you have to offer them. From this page, the most skilled and in-demand workers will decide if they should apply to your company or move onto the next.

Hint: You want them to apply!

But in order for that to happen, you need to rock a killer careers page, meaning the goal is to paint your employee experience in the best possible light, while being truthful, of course.

One company that passes our test with flying colors is Oracle, a cloud technology company where the employee culture is as innovative and attractive as the world’s first autonomous database.

Show Me the Money

The main reason most people show up for work every day is probably to get paid – in the form of great benefits, a supportive culture, advancement opportunities, and of course, money. A careers page should make it easy for future employees to figure out how to start the process of getting paid. In other words, how do they view open roles and apply?

The Oracle careers page starts strong with an attractive top banner and catchy slogan: “Create the future with us.” In the description, the company tells candidates that this is the place to be to make a real difference in the world, using technology to solve problems. This makes it clear that this is a technology company that cares about making a positive impact.

The banner also features a “Search for jobs” button – a must-have on any careers page.

Click the button, and potential candidates are taken to a user-friendly search page where they can look for jobs based on job title, skill, keyword, and location.

For good measure, Oracle also includes a highlighted Careers News block where candidates can sign up to receive career tips and new opportunities right to their inbox. Genius!

Throw in Some Culture

Back on the careers page, the next block includes several drop-down menus that include all kinds of information about the company culture and what Oracle has to offer future employees.

From these menus, candidates can read in detail about everything from employee benefits to solving the world's problems to campus recruiting. There’s a page for career development, diversity and inclusion, career opportunities, Oracle Academy, the company’s core values, and so much more.

With each click, you’re brought to another screen with more detailed information, and always included is that all-important “Search for jobs” button, bringing it back to the main reason job seekers are on the site in the first place – to find a job!

Back on the careers page, the text on the block doubles down on the “making a positive difference” value, telling job seekers that if you work here, you’ll “change lives doing what you love.” What a selling point! Underneath is a paragraph giving specific examples of how the work at Oracle changes lives, including protecting governments and powering nonprofits.

The icing on the cake is the well-placed video that provides more details about how the work done at Oracle literally makes lives better. Examples include connecting cancer patients to life-saving studies, preventing cargo ships from being stranded at sea, and even saving endangered species from extinction,

The video also touches on diversity and inclusion at the company, flexible work options, work-life balance, and opportunities for career advancements.

It’s All About the Visuals

Obviously, the video mentioned above is a homerun, but this careers page features several effective and visually appealing graphics.

The next block features a series of lovely illustrations on a textured background that list all the ways a career at Oracle will help you grow, both personally and professionally. When candidates click on each block, they’re taken to another page with more details on the subject, along with vibrant pictures of happy people at work.

Below this section is another fantastic video in a block labeled “Get to know us.” This video focuses on how Oracle is growing and expanding as a company, how important Oracle technologies are in our global world, and how happy and fulfilled Oracle employees are.

Wrapping Up

The last few blocks include a list of Featured Opportunities, each one accompanied by a prominent “Apply now” link – an obvious must-have.

Under this section are posts from Oracle’s career blog, each one featuring a lovely smiling face – wrapping things up with something of value for the job seekers. A nice touch.

At the very bottom is a block with the final “Search for jobs” button telling job seekers to “Apply,” along with social media buttons to help job seekers further connect with the company.

Overall, this careers page is a slam dunk. Candidates can find out about the company’s culture, policies, and available opportunities all on a page with attractive visuals and a pleasing flow. Well done, Oracle!
